I had a wreck Sunday, my insurance has been lapsed for over a month. It was totally not my fault, what do I do?

After the wreck happened, I gave the officer my license and insurance card. I got the accident report yesterday and the other driver is at fault and has insurance. I ended up going to the emergency room and have a mild concussion and a hurt shoulder, I've already paid over $150 worth of expenses b/c of no health insurance (again due to financial situation). What is the best thing for me to do, I need another vehicle to get my 18 month old back and forth, and still haven't heard from the other driver's insurance company. Do I need to go ahead and reinstate my insurance or what? Please help! In Alabama
