What kind of plant is this? (Photos)?

The photos are quite small.. any way to enlarge them? // You may have better luck by taking the photos and description (and you do a good job of describing the habitat - and the smell HAS to be a dead giveaway for anyone familiar with the critter!!) to you local university biology/botany department and find someone who knows desert plants, or to a local natural history museum and ask for the botanist.
