Virtual Villagers: The Lost Children?

i just started the game and the fire won't start without the dry gr- how\where do i find the fry gr? and, the box near the ocean- i put 3 trainie builders next to it but they dont pick it up...........WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!!!?
