Why do people (often rudely) say "hey, lady" to a woman, but never "hey gentleman" to a man?

Hey, lady, you've got the love I need. Maybe more than enough. Oh, darlin, darlin, darlin, walk a while with me. You've got so much. Many have I loved, and many times been bitten. Many times I've gazed along the open road.
